    Construction at Durant Nature Preserve

    We anticipate construction to begin in late June 2025 and take approximately 7 months to complete. During construction, a portion of the Border Trail at Durant Nature Preserve will be closed and there will be, at times, temporary single lane closures at the corner of Spottswood and Welborn Streets.

    Coaches and or team managers, any changes in field status beyond this point will be communicated to you through your league administrator. 

    February 13 is Code Yellow, which indicates all field activities will be an on-site decision.

    Dog Park Closure

    The dog park at Moore Square is temporarily closed as we prepare for exciting improvements.

    The temporary pop-up dog park closed in August 2025, and we anticipate our brand-new permanent dog park will open in its place in Spring 2026.

    Winterizing Fountains in All Dog Parks

    The City of Raleigh has winterized all outdoor water fountains at dog parks.

    This process helps protect pipes and fixtures from freezing temperatures during the colder months. While fountains are turned off for the season, please remember to bring water for your pet when visiting the park.

    Durant Nature Preserve North Entrance Closure

    The north entrance to Durant Nature Preserve (8305 Camp Durant Rd) will be closed to traffic from Monday, Feb. 16, through Friday, Feb. 20, for road paving on Camp Durant Rd.

    All visitors should use the south entrance located at 3237 Spottswood Street.

    Pullen Amusements Closed February - March

    A shoreline improvement project at Lake Howell will require a full closure of Pullen Park Amusements from February 2 - March 31. This includes all attractions, amenities, playgrounds, and picnic shelters.

    Pullen Aquatic Center, Pullen Community Center, and tennis courts will remain open.

    Thank you for your patience as we make needed improvements to this well-loved park.

    Glenwood Creston Drainage Project Construction

    Stormwater System Upgrade

    We started construction for the Glenwood Creston Drainage Project and anticipate it being complete in November 2026. This project will be completed in phases so actual construction activities will vary along the project corridor which starts upslope of Woodland Avenue and terminates downslope of Alexander Drive.

    What To Expect

    Traffic closures will range from flagging and light traffic control to temporary lane or street closures. For the most part, local traffic (residents within the work zone) will have access to their driveways and will be able to come and go as needed. Normal work hours will be Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. No work will be scheduled on weekends or City holidays, except in an emergency or with prior approval from the City. The City will have an inspector onsite daily.

    Construction at Worthdale Park

    Stream Restoration and Green Stormwater Infrastructure

    The City is restoring three (3) streams and adding wetlands in Worthdale Park. Construction is expected to begin in September 2025 and take about six months (March 2026).

    During on-site work hours, there may be elevated noise or vibrations. The park and Community Center will remain open during construction. Fencing will be placed around the construction area, restricting access to the public. Some parking spots will be used for construction equipment and materials.
