Raleigh Water Capital Improvement Program
Water and Wastewater Project List
Updated: Nov 13, 2025
The City of Raleigh’s Capital Improvement Program, or CIP, is part of the city’s big-picture planning. It connects Raleigh’s overall city plan with long-term plans for important infrastructure and services. Raleigh Water (the City’s Public Utilities Department) has a special team called the CIP Division that focuses on these projects.
This team looks at the city’s major facilities and equipment to figure out what’s needed, sets priorities, reviews water and wastewater plans, and keeps the systems running smoothly. They also estimate costs and schedule the construction of major projects. These efforts are all part of building and maintaining the city’s water and wastewater systems.
Raleigh Water takes care of the water and wastewater infrastructure not just in Raleigh, but also in the surrounding towns of Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon. The CIP Division works on improvements to a huge network of pipes, pump stations, treatment plants, and storage facilities to make sure everyone has safe, reliable water and wastewater services.
