Blue Ridge Road Bike-Ped Project - Construction Activity

We are dedicated to improving bicycle and pedestrian connectivity in Raleigh.

We are building a pedestrian bridge that spans over Wade Avenue/I440 and a new multi-use path along Blue Ridge Road from just north of Trinity Road to Reedy Creek Road. The project also includes Raleigh's first protected intersection.

Construction is underway on this project. There may be intermittent lane closures as the work progresses.

    Temporary Lane Closures

The first closure is scheduled from Friday night, Oct. 3, through early Saturday morning, Oct. 4, when crews will set the bridge span over eastbound Wade Avenue. A second closure is scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 10, into Saturday morning, Oct. 11, to set the bridge span over westbound Wade Avenue.

Reduced traffic will flow up the Blue Ridge Road off-ramp, then rejoin Wade Avenue on the other side. Blue Ridge Road will remain open throughout. A single lane of Wade Avenue will be closed from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. All lanes will be closed from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. At 7:00 a.m., traffic will resume with one lane still closed. All lanes will reopen at 8:30 a.m.

Please follow detours and signage, and expect extra travel time during overnight operations. We appreciate your patience as we work to make Blue Ridge Road safer and more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists.

Raleigh Water is continuing the construction of the West Neuse Sewer Interceptor Project, an important sewer interceptor replacement project along the Neuse River, from Anderson Point Park to Alvis Farm. Sections of the Neuse River Trail are closed to safely accommodate construction and protect trail users. Closure of the Neuse River Trail will take place in three phases.

Phase 1 Closure The trail from Anderson Point Park to the pedestrian bridge just north of New Bern Avenue/US 64 is open.
Phase 2 Closure – The trail from the pedestrian bridge that crosses the Neuse River to Old Milburnie Road is open. The section of trail from the pedestrian bridge north to the Hedingham community is closed through Oct. 31, 2025.
Phase 3 Closure – The trail from the Hedingham community to Alvis Farm is closed through Nov. 30, 2025.

    Neuse River Trail Closure

Between Mile Marker 22 and 23.25

    Affected Date
    -

The Complete 540 project will extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to Interstate 87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 in Knightdale, joining the outer 540 loop around the greater Raleigh area. Construction of this project will require periodic stoppages of trail traffic, between Auburn Knightdale Rd and Battle Bridge Rd, to allow construction equipment and vehicles to cross the trail.

Temporary closures will periodically be in place as construction advances. During trail closures, a temporary detour trail will be in place adjacent to the existing Neuse River Trail, allowing trail users to pass through this corridor during the entire construction process. This work will begin in October 2025 and continue through September 2028.
