    Blue Ridge Road Bike-Ped Project - Construction Activity

    We are dedicated to improving bicycle and pedestrian connectivity in Raleigh.

    We are building a pedestrian bridge that spans over Wade Avenue/I440 and a new multi-use path along Blue Ridge Road from just north of Trinity Road to Reedy Creek Road. The project also includes Raleigh's first protected intersection.

    Construction is underway on this project. There may be intermittent lane closures as the work progresses.

    Overnight Closures Scheduled for S Bloodworth and S Person Streets

    Crews will continue work on a Capital Improvement Project with overnight intersection and lane closures beginning Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m. and ending Tuesday, July 28, at 6 a.m.

    Intersection Closures

    E Lenoir Street and S Bloodworth Street
    The intersection will be fully closed from 7 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday for construction work.

    What to expect:

    • Full intersection closure
    • Detour route in place
    • Crews working along E Lenoir Street
    • Possible delays; use alternate routes when possible
    • Use caution when traveling through the work zone

    E South Street and S Bloodworth Street
    The intersection will be fully closed from 7 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday for construction work.

    • Possible delays; use alternate routes when possible
    • Use caution when traveling through the work zone

    Lane Closures

    • Overnight alternating northbound and southbound lane closures
    • Possible delays; use alternate routes when possible
    • No water service interruptions are expected

    S Person Street

    What to expect:

    • Overnight alternating northbound and southbound lane closures
    • Possible delays; use alternate routes when possible
    • No water service interruptions are expected

    All lane and intersection closures will end at 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 28.

    For your safety and the safety of construction crews, slow down and use caution while traveling through the work zone.

    Polk Street Closed July 30 for Sewer Maintenance Work

    Plan ahead if you travel through the Polk Street area on Thursday, July 30. City of Raleigh crews will be performing sanitary sewer maintenance in the 600 block of Polk Street near 617 Polk St. from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    During this work, Polk Street will be closed and a detour will be in place. Drivers should allow extra time, follow posted detour signs, and use caution when traveling near the work zone.

    No interruptions to nearby water or sewer services are expected. Thank you for your patience while crews complete this important maintenance work.

    Downtown Raleigh Lane Closures

    Plan ahead if you travel through downtown Raleigh on Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31. City of Raleigh crews will perform capital improvement work, including granite curb replacement, concrete replacement and sanitary sewer manhole rehabilitation, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

    During this work, daytime lane closures will be in effect on S. Wilmington Street between E. Martin Street and E. Morgan Street, E. Hargett Street between Fayetteville Street and the GoRaleigh Bus Station driveway, and S. Blount Street between E. Edenton Street and E. Hargett Street.

    Drivers should expect delays, allow extra time, follow posted traffic controls and use caution when traveling through work zones. Motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes when possible.

    Downtown Road Closures Aug. 2-3

    Plan ahead if traveling through downtown Raleigh. City of Raleigh crews will complete work as part of a Capital Improvement Project, resulting in several road closures, detours and possible delays.

    Sunday, Aug. 2, 9 p.m. to Monday, Aug. 3, 6 a.m.

    • McDowell Street will be closed between David Street and W. Hargett Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured to Martin Street, then north on Wilmington Street.
    • Blount Street will be closed between E. Jones Street and E. Morgan Street. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to E. Jones Street, then south on Bloodworth Street.

    Monday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    • Hargett Street will be closed between Fayetteville Street and S. Wilmington Street. Traffic will be detoured to Morgan Street.

    Construction crews will be working in the roadway during each closure. Drivers should expect possible delays, slow down, follow posted detours and use caution when traveling through work zones.

    Lane Closure for New Bern Avenue Sewer Repair

    Plan ahead if traveling on New Bern Avenue Friday, July 31. City of Raleigh crews will repair a gravity sewer main in the 2000 block near 2115 New Bern Ave. Work is expected to be complete by 4 p.m.

    Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between Dickens Drive and Lord Ashley Road. Drivers should expect delays and use caution in the work zone.

    No water or sewer service interruptions are expected. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while crews complete this important repair.

    Atlantic Avenue Construction

    Crews are actively working on the Atlantic Avenue Improvement Project. There may be temporary lane closures and traffic shifts during this work. For your safety and that of the construction crews, please slow down and follow the flagger's instructions while driving through the construction zone. 

    Please note: there is a road closure starting June 23, 2026, on New Hope Church Road associated with the NCDOT project at the New Hope Church Road railroad crossing.

    Turkey Creek Trail Closure

    A section of the Turkey Creek Trail at Umstead State Park is closed for a bridge replacement project. During this time, access between Umstead State Park, the Crabtree Creek Trail and the parking lot located at 4924 Ebenezer Church Road, will remain open. Be advised that users will not be able to go north into Umstead State Park along the Turkey Creek Trail from the Crabtree Creek Trail. This project is being coordinated by North Carolina State Parks.

    Do not use Ebenezer Church Road as access to the trail systems. Ebenezer Church Road is a busy vehicular road with a speed limit of 45 mph. For your safety, do not cross the construction barricades.
