The following street closings are due to scheduled special events such as festivals, road races, walks, and parades, in addition to construction projects. Some of these activities will affect certain traffic patterns across Raleigh over the next several months.

Atlantic Avenue Construction

Please drive slow through the construction site.

Crews are actively working on the Atlantic Avenue Improvement Project. There may be temporary lane closures and traffic shifts during this work. For your safety and that of the construction crews, please slow down and follow the flagger's instructions while driving through the construction zone. 

Please note: there is a road closure starting June 23, 2026, on New Hope Church Road associated with the NCDOT project at the New Hope Church Road railroad crossing.

Hargett Street to close Aug. 24-27

Plan ahead if traveling on Hargett Street or Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. Road closures may cause delays.

Monday, Aug. 24, 7 a.m. to Thursday, Aug. 27, 5 p.m.

Hargett Street will be closed between Fayetteville Street and S. Wilmington Street. One northbound lane of Fayetteville Street also will be closed between E. Martin Street and E. Morgan Street.

Drivers should follow detour signs, use alternate routes when possible and slow down near the work zone.

Downtown Raleigh Road Impacts

Plan ahead if traveling on Person Street or Blount Street in downtown Raleigh. Temporary road closures and lane restrictions may cause delays.

Tuesday, Aug. 25

Person Street: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Person Street will be closed between E. Davie Street and E. Martin Street.
  • A detour route will be in place, with traffic detoured to E. Davie Street.
  • Construction crews will be working in the roadway.

Blount Street: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • The southbound lane of Blount Street will be closed between E. Davie Street and E. Cabarrus Street.
  • The northbound lane of Fayetteville Street between E. Martin Street and E. Morgan Street will also be closed.
  • The northbound lane on Fayetteville Street will remain active.

Drivers should follow posted detours, use alternate routes when possible and slow down when approaching the work zone. Motorists should use extra caution for the safety of construction crews and fellow travelers.
