Upper Walnut Creek Sanitary Sewer Improvements

Improvement project will replace aging materials to meet future infrastructure capacity demand.

This project consists of a much needed sewer interceptor replacement from the Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Sunnybrook Road to South State Street. This major artery of the City of Raleigh’s wastewater system is at overcapacity and is showing signs of deterioration. Project will replace 1950’s 42-inch and 1990's 48-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipes. A new 60-inch diameter line will be installed.

Construction

Construction is expected to begin during Spring 2022 with project completion expected for Spring of 2024. Sections of the greenway trails from the Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Sunnybrook Road to Rock Quarry Road will be closed from April 1, 2022 to February 19, 2024. Please visit the City of Raleigh's Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources greenway alert website for further information. 

Traffic Impact: Temporary street closures and detours are planned for the areas of Dacian Rd, Little John Rd, and Beverly Drive to allow the contractor to replace existing water and sewer mains under these streets. On street parking will not be available within the work zones. Signs for these ‘No Parking’ areas will be posted and will be enforced by the City of Raleigh Police Department.
