South Saunders Street Improvements

Creating safe pedestrian and bike connections

The South Saunders Street Project will connect the Lake Wheeler Road improvements to the future Dix-Chavis Strollway by building a multi-use-path on the east side of South Saunders Street to allow safe pedestrian and bike connections between Raleigh's downtown and John Chavis Memorial Park and Dix Park

The project is funded through the NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's Locally Administrated Projects Program (LAPP) funding.

Project Update: Jan. 5, 2025

The Raleigh City Council approved an amendment to the design contract. Crews are conducting utility potholing work and are currently resolving conflicts in our design. We plan to advertise this project for construction bids this winter.

The team displayed design plans for the project during outreach for the Lake Wheeler Road Improvement Project.  To view the design plans, see page two of the design map.
