Building Safety - Game On!

Safety in the built environment is an essential component of maintaining public health, making Building Safety Month more relevant now than ever. Building Safety Month celebrates advances in constructing safe, sustainable, affordable, and resilient buildings and homes around the world. 

Building safety impacts every part of our lives—from homes to schools and offices. As we enter 2025, the importance of safety codes and professionals is greater than ever.  The theme for this year is "Game On!" with weekly focuses: 
 

Week 1: The Warm-Up

May 1-3
Let's kick off Building Safety Month!  This week we're laying the groundwork by exploring the fundamentals of building safety. Building Safety Month is an annual public awareness campaign observed in May. Each week we'll highlight the role that building codes and regulations play in protecting people like you. 
 

For the kids: Explore resources from the International Code Council so kids can learn about building safety and help communities stay protected.

Week 2: Build Your Offense

May 4-10
Time to create a strategic game plan to actively build safety initiatives within your community! Are you about to begin a project that requires a building permit? Our Permit Advocates are ready to help you with your permit application and plan intake for all residential and commercial development projects. Week 3: Build Your Defense

May 11-17
Stay prepared for natural hazards such as severe weather, wildfires, earthquakes, and more. The Raleigh Raleigh Guide is a helpful resource providing you with tips to build a disaster toolkit to help you protect your home and family. Remember, the best defense is a strong offense! Building safety directly influences our daily lives and highlights the proactive measures we can take at home to ensure safety. 

Week 4: The Starting Lineup

May 18-24
Meet building safety professionals and learn about rewarding careers in the field. Discover what these experts do, how to work with them, and how you can become one yourself.  Week 4 of Building Safety Month offers a glimpse into the world of building safety professionals, outlining their roles and responsibilities and showcasing how these professionals make a meaningful impact in their communities.  

Week 5: Going Into Overtime

May 25–31
Explore what's next for the building safety industry. We'll celebrate past successes while looking ahead to a future of safe, sustainable construction. Building safety doesn’t stop after the final buzzer or the last out—staying informed about the latest trends and technologies is the key to keeping our homes and communities safe.
