Vintage Drive to Walnut Creek Greenway Connector

Neighborhood & Community Connections Program

This project is part of the Neighborhood & Community Connections (N&CC) Program. The N&CC Program is an effort to identify, prioritize, and build new, walkable connections to parks and greenways. The N&CC Program was designed to promote health equity throughout the City, using geo-spatial modeling and data analysis to guide investment in those communities which are most at-risk of negative health outcomes and most in need of improved access to outdoor recreation opportunities.

The proposed project includes the construction of a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail that connects the communities of Eaglechase and The Vineyard to the Walnut Creek Trail near mile marker 1 1/4. This connection is approximately 1 mile from access to the Neuse River Trail.

N&CC projects are funded through the 2014 Parks Bond Referendum and land acquisition funds, and include projects that are primarily focused on improving access to both recreation facilities and greenway trails.

A construction contact was awarded to Lanier Construction in November 2022 for the construction of the Industrial Drive Neighborhood & Community Connection Project.  Construction is estimated to be completed on May 16, 2023.

No trail closures are required during construction activities.

History

The Capital Area Greenway System was first adopted by Raleigh City Council in 1976. This plan proposed a system of linear parks located primarily along rivers, streams, and creeks and included the opportunity for an interconnected system of pedestrian trails across the region.
