Wake BRT - New Bern Avenue

Fast, Safe, and Reliable Transit for Everyone.

New Bern Corridor - Most Recent Update:

The Wake BRT: New Bern Corridor project is fully designed, and the city is working to hire a contractor. An initial bid in Spring 2024 received no bids, and the single bid received for a Fall 2024 advertisement was rejected by City Council on January 7, 2025.

The city hosted an Industry Day on January 27, 2025, and has solicited feedback from civil construction and related contractors to inform a revised bid advertisement plan.

For more information regarding this revised bid plan, visit the Design and Construction page.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is coming to our region! Planning is underway for fast, safe, and reliable transit service along four key corridors in Wake County. This page is about the New Bern Avenue Corridor, connecting downtown Raleigh with WakeMed and New Hope Road.

New Bern Avenue will be the first corridor to begin BRT construction. There are two major focus areas for BRT planning in Raleigh:

  1.  Design + Construction of the BRT routes, stations, and bus lanes, and;
  2. Station Area Planning which focuses on community planning for the amenities and areas within a short walk of BRT stations.
