Who We Are
Our outreach program introduces students to roadway design, construction, and engineering through interactive, hands-on activities. From the first design drawings to final construction, students gain a behind-the-scenes look at how Raleigh plans, designs, and builds public infrastructure that keeps our community moving safely.
About the Program
This program gives students an opportunity to learn about how roads and infrastructure are designed, built, and maintained. Students will explore:
- How roadway projects move from design to construction
- The value of public infrastructure
- Raleigh's Complete Streets approach
- Careers in engineering and roadway construction
What We Offer
Our team partners with schools to provide engaging activities tailored to each grade level:
- Elementary School – Activities that explore traffic safety, the basics of infrastructure, and fun engineering challenges.
- Middle School – Design challenges and simulations that show how planning, teamwork, and safety shape every project.
- High School – Career-focused workshops and hands-on engineering experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world transportation projects.
We're available to participate in STEM fairs, career days, and classroom presentations.
Career Day - Hilburn Academy (Fall 2025)
Students explored the life cycle of a roadway project with our Roadway Design & Construction team, learning about planning, design, construction, and community engagement.
Classroom Presentation - Hilburn Academy (2025)
Students designed streets using Streetmix, balancing safety, comfort, and sustainability to create streets that serve everyone.
