Pearl Road Closure Alert

The City is improving Barwell Road from Rock Quarry Road to Berkeley Lake Road.

We want Barwell Road to be safe, convenient, and comfortable for all modes of transportation. We call this a Complete Street.

Improvements to the road include:

Designated Two-Way Left Turn Lanes;
Sidewalks;
Multi-Use-Path;
Transit Improvements; and,
Realignment of the Pearl Road Intersection.

Construction Updates

Pearl Road Closure Begins Oct. 19

Pearl Road will close at Rock Quarry Road from Monday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Dec. 17, while the contractor completes work to realign the intersection.

During the closure, drivers will not be able to travel through the intersection of Pearl Road and Rock Quarry Road. A detour will direct traffic to the alternate Pearl Road and Rock Quarry Road intersection near Granite Quarry Drive.

Please follow the posted detour signs and allow extra time to travel through the area. We appreciate your patience as construction continues on Barwell Road.

Advanced Public Touchpoint - Summer 2020

Based on public feedback from the April 23 public meeting, other public engagement opportunities, and internal discussion and evaluation of both alternatives, we are moving forward with design Alternative 1. This design alternative includes a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side of the road and a 10-foot multi-use path (MUP) on the west side of the roadway.

Barwell Road Advanced Design Presentation

History

The Barwell Road Widening Project is part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program. Barwell Road is almost exclusively residential and includes the Barwell Road Elementary School and Community Center complex. These improvements will help improve pedestrian and bicycle accessibility from the surrounding properties to the school/park complex.

Public Art
