Construction

We will replace the stormwater drainage system that failed behind 501 North Boundary Street. North East Street will be shut down for several weeks. We expect the project to be completed in early January 2025, but this will depend on weather and other unknown variables such as subsurface conditions.

What To Expect

Raleigh Stormwater and Carolina Civilworks Inc. are dedicated to minimizing impacts to you during construction. Work hours will be Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. with no work scheduled on the weekend except in an emergency or with prior approval from the City. You will be notified if such schedule changes need to take place. The City will be performing the inspection on the project and will have an inspector onsite daily.

Traffic Detours and Road Closures

Traffic detours will be set during the above periods, with sections of the roadway closed to through traffic. Residents living within the construction limits will keep access to their driveways during construction. One of the critical parts of this project is keeping the roads safe for both residents of Raleigh and our contractor. Please enter or leave the neighborhood at slower than normal speeds. View the traffic bypass and closure map.

Background

A sinkhole formed September 27 behind the house at 501 N Boundary Street due to aging stormwater infrastructure. The City worked over the weekend to secure the sinkhole and make the site safe. The contractor is installing pipe as part of a long-term solution. This is an emergency project.
