The Public Art and Design Board was created in 2009 as part of the Raleigh Art Commission to oversee public art, including the City's Percent for Art program.
The mission of the Public Art and Design Board is to promote and facilitate the inclusion of art into Raleigh's public realm. The Board and the Arts Commission oversee the public art process, including artist selection and design review. The Board also supports community engagement. These creative engagement events and projects help connect artists, residents, partners, and communities.
As an advisory board for the public art program, the Board:
- Develops policy
- Reviews projects
- Advises artists and project managers
- Steers community engagement
- Recommends the nature and placement of Percent for Art public art projects
- Allocates percent for art funding to eligible construction projects
