Imagine a Day Without Water

A national day of action highlighting how water is essential, invaluable, and in need of continuous investment

Imagine a Day Without Water

Can you imagine walking two miles for clean water or turning on the faucet to cook breakfast, only to find it dry? Have you ever wondered what a day would be like with no clean drinking water in sight?

Imagine a Day Without Water, held on October 19, 2023, is a national day of action that brings together diverse populations and locations to highlight how important water is. This  campaign highlights how water is invaluable, essential, and in need of investment. It is also a day to remember those who service our water and wastewater plants or who repair and maintain water infrastructure.

Actions you can take to recognize the day and help your community:

Project Share Program

Residents who may have fallen on hard times do not have to imagine what a day without water would be like: They have lived it. Raleigh Water has created the Project Share program, which uses customer contributions to help those who are struggling to cover utility bills. To contribute to this initiative, contact City of Raleigh Customer Care or call 919-996-3245.

Utility Customer Assistance Program

The Utility Customer Assistance Program (UCAP) was established by the City of Raleigh to help economically distressed water and sewer utility customers manage their utility bills. Residents who are in need of assistance with their utility bill can apply for up to $240 of financial assistance per fiscal year. To learn more about the application process, contact Customer Care or call 919-996-3245.

Raleigh Rainwater Rewards

Keeping our water sources clean is critical to having healthy and accessible water systems. Without clean natural water we would not be able to use our local lakes, streams, and creeks. The Raleigh Rainwater Rewards Program allows residents to help with sustaining good water quality by installing green stormwater infrastructure, such as  rain gardens, cisterns, and permeable pavement. Raleigh Stormwater provides up to 100 percent of project cost reimbursement and will guide residents through the process, from application to construction. Contact Raleigh Stormwater to learn more about the application process.
