Mine Creek Outfall Gravity Sewer Replacement

Replacement project to prepare sewer system for wet weather events that may produce higher amounts of storm water.

Approximately 15,900 linear feet of gravity sewer will be improved with either a bigger diameter pipe or a new liner pipe. This upgrade is intended to prepare the sewer system for wet weather that leads to more storm water. Once finished, the project will protect the sewer system from possible harm due to this increased flow.

The work will start at the intersection with Crabtree Creek close to I-440 and will extend along both the east and west sides of Shelly Lake up to North Hills Drive. The project will require road crossings at West Millbrook Road and Shelley Road.

History

The existing sewer line cannot effectively manage wet weather flows. Its limited capacity has caused backups, leading the water modeling system to verify that a sanitary sewer overflow might occur during severe storm events. This confirmation resulted in funding for the project. A design option was selected, and the project engineer moved on to the Preliminary Engineering Report phase and pre-design. A meeting took place in January 2021 to review the preliminary engineering report. The Preliminary Engineering Report is now finished. Brown and Caldwell performed a cost analysis for the design and submitted it in Fall 2021.
