Design

Routine repairs to a dam must be submitted to and approved by North Carolina Dam Safety. We submitted the repair design and they were approved by North Carolina Dam Safety. Design is expected to be completed Fall 2025.

Next Steps

Dam repairs will require the lake to be lowered approximately 5 feet and it is expected that the Lake Johnson Loop Trail will be closed along the dam during the repairs. The trail will be routed to the Walnut Creek Trail immediately to the east along Lake Dam Rd. Repairs are expected to take 2-3 months.
