Highwoods Boulevard Sidewalk Project

Improving mobility and connectivity for pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic

We are adding a sidewalk to both sides of Highwoods Boulevard from Capital Boulevard to Atlantic Avenue. As part of this project, we will also install a sidewalk on the west side of Poplarwood Court and Smoketree Court.

The project is a cost-share project with the Highwoods Property Owners Association.

Adjustments to the sidewalk width and setback may be included in the final design to avoid significant impacts in certain areas as needed and determined by our Engineering staff.

Project History

The approved 2017 Transportation Bond included $3 Million in the Public/Private Partnerships and Cost Sharing Fund. City Council approved a resolution to consider Highwoods Boulevard Sidewalk improvements as a potential project on June 6, 2017. In June 2017, Council adopted a Public/Private Partnerships Policy to provide guidance on terms the City may consider in potential partnerships. City staff worked with the Highwoods Property Owner's Association (POA) representatives on a cost-sharing partnership, making this project possible.
