E.M. Johnson Water Treatment Plant Drinking Water Laboratory

Expansion and upgrading of current testing, office, and storage facility spaces.

The current laboratory facilities at the E.M. Johnson Water Treatment Plant are in need of expanding for additional testing, office, and storage space. The 'Programming and Schematic Design Services' phase evaluated several alternatives and determined that a new 'Drinking Water Compliance Laboratory' be built. The future laboratory facility will contain approximately 15,000 square-feet to provide for the future water treatment needs for the region.

History

A 'Laboratory Study' was completed in March 2016 for the Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility and the E.M. Johnson Water Treatment Plant laboratories. Both facilities were aging and had significant technical issues with the existing building infrastructure. Both laboratories needed expansions due to the number of current personnel and future needs. The Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility has since been renovated and expanded. The E.M. Johnson Drinking Water Laboratory was determined by Raleigh Water staff and LS3P architects to be built on existing City property at 10700 Star Road in Wake Forest.
