The Building Blocks of City Planning

The Planning Academy offers residents a deeper understanding of community planning. In a classroom setting, students will learn:

  • What guides land development in the city?
  • How local government plays a role.
  • How to navigate rezoning cases.
  • Ways they can engage in the planning process.

The Goals of Planning Academy

  1. Educate and Empower: Teach residents more about planning and how they can play an active role in the process.
  2. Community Voices: Increase the quantity, quality, and representation of community voices engaged.
  3. Strong Connections: Create valuable connections between the community, City staff, and other resources.
  4. Community Support: Collaborate and exchange ideas that will drive the future growth of planning.

The Planning Academy is more than just an educational opportunity. It’s a chance to connect with planning professionals and community members to:

  • Build valuable connections and access resources to advocate for neighborhood projects.
  • Use creative decision-making to collaborate with classmates on team activities.
  • Serve as community ambassadors, using the learned skills, resources, and established connections.
