Blasting Permit Application

In accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina State Fire Prevention Code, a blasting permit must be obtained before a person is authorized to do any blasting or to use any explosive for the purpose of demolishing a structure or blasting out rock, gravel, earth, trees, or any other substance or material.

All information must be complete before the processing of a blasting permit application will proceed. The permit application and supporting documentation must be submitted in advance of planned blasting operations.

General Information

Blasting operations shall be conducted only by approved, competent operators who are familiar with the required safety precautions and associated hazards, in accordance with the provisions of NFPA 495.

What to Expect

A weekly blasting schedule shall be submitted by email to fireprevention@raleighnc.gov no later than close of business each Friday for operations planned for the following week.

Each planned detonation of explosives shall be monitored by the Office of the Fire Marshal for the City of Raleigh. All explosive charges shall be assessed and billed in accordance with the established fee schedule outlined in the Development Fee Guide. A deputy fire marshal from the Office of the Fire Marshal shall be present on site for each individual shot or detonation.
