Cellies, chirps, and dangles – the “Battle of the Badges” ice hockey game on March 27 promises to have it all! That’s when the Raleigh Fire Department will take on the Raleigh Police Department in a friendly match at the Lenovo Center. The free game will benefit two local charities – and give the winner bragging rights for the next 12 months!
“We’re excited and grateful to be able to have a Battle of the Badges hockey game again – and to play at the Lenovo Center for the second year in a row,” says Lt. Cody Heakins, who captains the RFD team.
Proceeds will benefit Hurricanes Sled Hockey and The Reason Outdoors. You can learn more about the beneficiaries and make donations at the event and online at the Battle of the Badges website.
RPD team’s captain, Senior Officer Mike Mollere, is excited about the match. “Last year's game was a huge success in many ways, and we hope that this year we can build on that,” he says. “Our primary goal is to raise awareness and funds for the Hurricanes Sled Hockey program and for The Reason Outdoors. And the fact that we get to face off against each other in a hockey game just makes it more fun for everyone involved.”
The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 6 p.m. Parking lots will open at 4 p.m. for tailgating – and parking will be free!
