The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is the enforcement, educational, and informational arm of the Raleigh Fire Department. The OFM performs site inspections, issues permits, enforces fire codes, investigates fire incidents for cause and origin, and provides fire and life safety education.
The four branches of OFM include:
- Existing Construction Inspections
- New Construction Inspections
- Fire Plans Examiners
- Fire Education and Investigation
The OFM is also responsible for after-hours inspections (alterations, upfits, and special events), citizens’ complaints - life safety, fire watch patrol enforcement, private fire hydrant enforcement, smoke alarm canvassing, and training Fire Operations personnel.
