Raleigh is embracing innovative programs to build a more resilient future. We are making renewable energy more accessible to residents through various programs. Those include installing solar panels, expanding EV charging networks, and helping residents acquire e-bikes. These efforts protect the environment and enhance the quality of life for all who call Raleigh home.
Clean Energy in Action
BEAM Chargers: Convenient, Renewable Power for EVs
In 2024, the City of Raleigh installed three solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations. These BEAM chargers, located at three City parks, provide clean energy without requiring a connection to the grid. Instead, they harness the power of the sun, offering a sustainable solution for EV drivers. The chargers make EV charging more accessible and aid in Raleigh’s transition to a cleaner transportation system. Learn more about BEAM chargers in Raleigh.
Solarize the Triangle: Making Solar More Accessible
The Solarize the Triangle program helps make solar energy more affordable for homeowners and businesses. Through bulk purchasing in the initial phase (2022-2023), they could get discounted rates on solar panel installations. That lowered the financial barrier to adopting renewable energy.
The award-winning and record-breaking initiative helps residents and businesses save on energy costs. It also contributes to the City’s broader sustainability goals by increasing solar adoption. Currently, the City is using federal funds to subsidize and install solar systems for qualifying residents. Find out more about Solarize the Triangle.
E-Bikes: A Sustainable Shift in Transportation
Electric bikes (e-bikes) offer an eco-friendly alternative to gas-powered vehicles. They can help reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions.
The City of Raleigh has a rebate program that provides financial incentives for residents to purchase new e-bikes. Learn about Raleigh’s e-bike program.
