New Exhibit at the Sertoma Arts Center Explores Global Traditions, Modern Textiles, and Digital Innovation

A vibrant celebration of visual storytelling and cultural dialogue opens this Saturday, April 26, featuring four unique artists who take over all gallery spaces at the venue. Running through June 25, 2025, the exhibit invites visitors to explore themes of identity, tradition, and innovation through a dynamic mix of mediums and styles.

In the Raleigh Room, artist Sampada Kodagali Agarwal presents "Lines that Connect – A Confluence of Celtic Knots, Kolam, and Mandana." Her work brings together intricate line-based art traditions from different cultures, highlighting their similarities while honoring their unique origins. The exhibit is a compelling blend of traditional art forms, each with deep-rooted significance and mathematical elegance.

Visitors can dive deeper into Agarwal’s artistic journey during an Artist Talk on Saturday, May 17, at 1 PM, followed by a Reception with all participating artists from 2 to 4 PM.

In the Hall Gallery, Jennifer (Jenn) Marks displays "Both/And," a contemporary quilt collection that challenges binary thinking and embraces complexity. Her modern textile works layer color, shape, and texture, evoking both emotion and contemplation.

The Wall Case hosts Mark C. Blanchard's vivid and whimsical digital blended collages, offering a “bright, fun, unique, and visionary experience.” His digital artistry pushes the boundaries of traditional collage, using bold color and surreal imagery to spark imagination.

Finally, the Display Cases feature work by Allison Killea, whose art adds an intimate dimension to the exhibit with meticulously crafted pieces that invite quiet reflection and close observation.

This multifaceted exhibition showcases the power of visual art to build bridges between tradition and modernity, playfulness and precision, the personal and the universal.
