Start Utility Service

To ensure the start process goes smoothly, please be aware of the following:

  • Allow five (5) business days to process your new service request.
  • Have an existing account with Raleigh Water? Register your account at Raleigh Water Self-Service and log in to begin your Start Service request.
  • Identity of the account holder will be verified for all new customers through an online verification service. If identity verification is not successful online, the account holder will need to come in person to 222 W. Hargett Street, Raleigh, during normal business hours, bringing two forms of identification and their lease/rental agreement/closing documents.
  • Examples of proof of identity include, but are not limited to:
    • social security number;
    • current address;
    • valid driver’s license;
    • birth date;
    • passport, state-issued photo ID card; or,
    • lease/rental agreement or closing documents.
  • Businesses must provide a tax identification number and a current address for validation purposes.
  • New accounts are required to pay a $50 service initiation fee per meter.
  • New customers are required to pay a $50 deposit.
  • Before your service is connected, make sure all faucets are turned off and sink/tub stoppers are open to prevent accidental flooding.
  • Once your start service request has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email with your new account number. You can then register and/or add your account to your profile through the Raleigh Water Self-Service billing portal.
  • Select the button below to begin the process.
