Alerts, Notifications, and Warnings
Wake County has two ways of directly notifying residents and visitors about emergencies as they happen and what protective action people should take to stay safe during emergencies and disasters.
ReadyWake! Alerts
ReadyWake! Alerts is a free alert service that requires registration. Wake County residents and those working in Wake County can sign up to receive customized alerts via phone call, text, and/or email. Alerts are based on the location provided during registration and not the location of your wireless device. Sign up for ReadyWake! Alerts.
Wireless Emergency Alerts
Wireless Emergency Alerts keep local communities informed of all nearby emergencies, including weather. When an emergency is relevant to a location, an alert is sent to every phone, similar to an Amber Alert, with guidance on remaining safe. Signing up to receive these alerts is not required. Make sure phone alerts are on and working to receive wireless emergency alerts.
During a Storm
During a storm or flood event, it’s important to know what to do and what not to do. The Ready Raleigh Guide (link to website) provides detailed information about how to contact government agencies for specific information before or after an emergency, how to compile an emergency kit, and what to do during specific natural and man-made hazards.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown
Never drive on a road that has water flowing over it. Always turn around and find an alternative route. In an event of an emergency, dial 911. Learn more about flooding during a storm.
