Yonkers Road Emergency Repair

Stormwater System Improvements

On June 1, 2026, a sinkhole formed on the Yonkers Road near the North Raleigh Boulevard intersection. The cause of the sinkhole is from a failing steel pipe under the road. This project is an emergency repair and stormwater staff will replace the failing pipe and close the sink hole.

Planning

We secured and blocked the affected area of Yonkers Road. We are working with other City departments to address water main and utility relocations. Our goal is to replace the failed 42 inch steel pipe with a new Reinforced Concrete Pipe of the same size and fill the sink hole.

During the duration of the repair, follow the detour to access Capital Boulevard or North Raleigh Boulevard.
