Background

The West Street Extension Project, managed by Raleigh's Roadway Design and Construction Division, will provide a new connection for vehicles using West Street and eliminate flooding at the Raleigh Union Station entrance. The City will build a new drainage system along West Street, under the railroad tracks, and tie into the recently constructed drainage system along West Cabarrus Street.

What Raleigh Stormwater Is Doing

With the increased flood capacity under the railroad tracks from this extension project, peak water flows could increase downstream unless drainage improvements are installed. The West Street Extension Flood Study will identify those future drainage improvements needed to control downstream flooding from the West Street Extension Project.
