Project History

Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard includes several intersections with documented pedestrian crash histories and vehicular crash patterns. This includes serious injury and fatal crashes. As a community, it’s our goal to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries for all who share Raleigh streets by 2040.

The project will improve accessibility for wheelchair users and pedestrians with low vision through accessible curb ramps and accessible pedestrian signals. It will provide new crosswalks which benefit all pedestrians.

Driving through the area will also be safer after upgrading traffic signals with improved left turn signals, near-side signal heads and retroreflective back plates to address red light running.
