Forest Ridge Mountain Bike Trails

Trail Extension Project

Project Overview

The Forest Ridge Park Mountain Bike Trail Extension Project is expected to add nearly 7.5 miles of single-track mountain bike trails within the park. This project will include two new sections of trail and offer a varying degree of technical riding features throughout. The project is supported through a grant from the Great Trails State Program in 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.

Forest Ridge Park is a 587-acre City park located on Falls Lake in northern Wake County. It focuses on outdoor recreation pursuits, including biking, hiking, paddle sports, and disc golf, among other outdoor adventures. The park hosts a full complement of park amenities, including a Welcome Center, restrooms, playgrounds, and picnic shelters.

Planning

The project follows the Forest Ridge Park Master Plan to develop an outdoor recreation hub in Wake County. The project has been reviewed and supported by the USACE through the Record of Environmental Consideration and NCDEQ processes. The conceptual design was established through a Trail Report provided by Rock Solid Trail Contractors.

Design

The City will be releasing a Request For Qualifications following the City Council approval of the award. The city will be using a design-build construction method. This will ensure a high-quality mountain bike trail experience and a sooner project delivery. Raleigh Parks expects to hire the firm and begin the project in Early Summer 2026, with a completion scheduled for 2028.
