Faircloth Street Active Mobility Improvements

Improving mobility and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists, and all active mobility users

Faircloth Street between Hillsborough Street and Wade Avenue has been identified to receive upgrades to the existing bike lanes through the 2016 BikeRaleigh Plan and 2025 Active Mobility Plan.

The existing bike lanes have been upgraded to a protected cycle-track on the west side of Faircloth Street. These upgrades provide more protection for active mobility users, such as cyclists and scooters, as well as increased connectivity to the House Creek, Reedy Creek and Rocky Branch Greenway Trails.

Planning

Faircloth Street was identified as a priority in the 2016 BikeRaleigh Plan and 2025 Active Mobility Plan to receive upgraded bike infrastructure. This project will accomplishthe following:

  • Shift existing bike lanes to the west side of Faircloth Street.
  • Creation of a two-way cycle track with a vertically separated barrier.
  • Increase access to three (3) greenway trails: House Creek, Reedy Creek, and Rocky Branch.
  • Improve safety and accessibility for active mobility users. Active mobility refers to human-powered modes of transportation, such as walking, cycling, scooting, skateboarding, etc.

The 2025 Active Mobility Plan was adopted by City Council in November 2025. A robust public engagement process, including in person events and online surveys, informed the recommendations and priority projects of the plan.
