Project Overview
The vast majority of the Capital Area Greenway System consists of 10’ wide asphalt paths that are easily identified as part of the Capital Area Greenway System. However, approximately 8 miles of the system consist of roadway adjacent sidewalks that range between 4’ and 6’ wide and are constructed of concrete. The transition to these concrete sidewalks can lead to user confusion, creating insecurity of whether a user is still on the Capital Area Greenway System. To address this challenge, the City of Raleigh is applying Capital Area Greenway System decals to sidewalk sections of the system across the City.
In locations where sidewalks are on both sides of a street, decals will only be applied on one side of the street. Decals are 12” across and will typically be applied every 100’ with the exception of sidewalk sections located in front of single family homes. In these areas, decals will be applied where they will have the least visual impact to adjacent home owners. Decals will be applied in late spring and early summer of 2025 and will only be applied to sidewalks included in the Capital Area Greenway System.
The following is a list of streets with adjacent sidewalks where Capital Area Greenway System Decals will be applied.
