What is the Civic Assembly?
A Civic Assembly is a group of everyday citizens organized to learn, discuss, and make recommendations on key issues. Raleigh’s Civic Assembly participants were chosen by lottery and organized to address the following questions:
The Civic Assembly held six sessions to learn, deliberate, write, and vote on their final recommendations. Sessions included speakers among city staff, community historians, local experts, and experts from peer cities. The Assembly then formed small groups based on areas of interest to draft recommendations to the City Council. The final recommendations will inform City officials on what Raleigh residents want to prioritize in the Next Comprehensive Plan.
