Hospitality programs enrich the Raleigh community by increasing vibrancy. These programs include the private use of public space (PUPS) with newsracks, pushcarts, and street performers; outdoor seating; nightlife; and the downtown social district.
Raleigh City Code and Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) governs the private use of public space (PUPS), nightlife, and outdoor seating within the city. Our office has created a Hospitality Programs Guide that provides relevant policies and procedures in a user-friendly manner to assist with obtaining a permit. All applicants should review this guide prior to applying for a permit, so they are aware of the complexities that come with holding a City of Raleigh permit. The guide covers the following:
- Types of hospitality permits
- Design standards and guidelines
- Permitting process overview
- Fees
- Rules, regulations, and other considerations
- Frequently asked questions
Types of Permits
**Other PUPS permits include: a-frame signs, awnings, minor encroachments, overhead signs, and are managed by Planning and Development.
