Council Accepts Donations for Two Park Improvements

Partnerships funding improvements at Walnut Creek and Henderson Parks

The Raleigh City Council accepted and approved two donations to enhance Raleigh parks at its meeting today. The Council accepted two donations for enhancement to Walnut Creek Wetland Park and Vallie Henderson Park, the results of flowering relationships with local conservation groups

The first donation of $340,000 is from The Conservation Fund and will be used to construct a new southern entrance to Walnut Creek Wetland Park along Bailey Drive. The new entrance will improve access to the park from the Biltmore Hills and Rochester Heights neighborhoods.

The Council also accepted both a donation from the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood and matching funds from Raleigh Parks totalling $35,000. The funds will include the construction of new brick paths, installation of benches and picnic tables, installation of a section of ornamental fence, and tree protection fencing within the park.

Get ready to enjoy new paths, more seating, and upgraded ways to explore your favorite parks!
