Vallie Henderson Park was established in memory of the Oakwood Garden Club's founder. 

Thanks to a donation from the Oakwood Garden Club, the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood, the Historic Oakwood Cemetery, and individual donors, matched by Raleigh Parks, renovations were completed in 2025.

In general, parks are open from dawn to dusk every day.

2025 Renovations

  • Four picnic tables and four benches across the park
  • New brick paths, one of which is made up of engraved bricks donated by members of the Oakwood Garden Club and the community
  • A new wooden fence was installed on the back of the park bordering neighboring homes
  • A new black ornamental fence was added to the existing ornamental fence to create two points of entry into the park
  • Landscaping was updated with new plantings and a rock garden
