Youth and Teen

Teen Jewelry - Teen Metals I

Learn your way around the Jewelry Studio at Pullen Arts Center in this introductory class. Design and construct earrings, pins, pendants, charms, or other small objects, and tokens in this basic metalworking class. Teens will learn how to saw, drill, file, hammer, and texture metal before joining it with rivets and soldering to create individual projects. Students should attend every class to learn all required skills and techniques for each project. All supplies included. 6 sessions. Instructor: Amy Veatch.

Teen Jewelry - Stacking Rings

Teen Printmaking Intensive - Screen Printing

Learn to screen print! From developing your image to final prints, with all the steps in between, we will cover it all in this four week screen printing course! Students will be able to feel confident in their printmaking and able to explore what interests them: whether that be decorating the backgrounds they print on, or learning how to layer prints to use multiple colors in one design. Printmaking - Prints for Patches

Come join the fun and craft your own lino stamp! We will be using these stamps to create patches that can be sewn or adhered to clothing or bags or even hung on a wall! (though of course you will be able to use these stamps to print on paper as well) At the end of the final class, students will be able to opt in to trade the patches they make with their classmates! $5 fee to instructor (fee covers all fabrics that we print on as well as printing block). Printmaking - Screen Printing: Beyond the Basics

In this screen printing class, we will be focusing on projects with multiple colors that require multiple layers. This will give us the opportunity to put our registration skills to use and build confidence with lining up our layers. This will also allow us to mix our own inks to build a harmonious and intentional color palette for our pieces. Some experience with screen printing is preferred. Jewelry - Sand Casting Workshop

Bring or choose a small object to cast in metal! Metal casting goes back to 4000 BC using open or two-piece ceramic or stone molds. In China around 1300 BC, during the Shang Dynasty, craftspeople started to use sand as the mold material. We will spend the weekend making a mold of your object out of sand and pour molten metal into that mold to make a replica of a small object. Students should plan to bring a small object to cast. A supply fee of approximately $45-50 covers all other materials. 2 sessions. Instructors: Amy Veatch and Ehko Biber.

Do you have one specific problem you need help with on the wheel or related to your wheel-thrown pots? Trouble trimming? Trouble centering? Not able to pull the walls up into a cylinder shape, or not able to pull them out into a bowl shape? Struggling with handles? Come to office hours and get one-on-one instruction to help resolve your issue. Stay for the full duration of class or drop in for a short period of time. Either way, come prepared to discuss your challenge with whatever pots you need help with already on hand. The instructor will spend approximately 10 minutes with each person in class and will offer a class-wide throwing demo if appropriate based on the needs of the group. This course invites participants to delve into the enchanting world of seed beading over three transformative Sundays. In this comprehensive course, students will master the art of creating intricate beaded jewelry, including at least three pairs of stunning earrings and a set of chic stackable bracelets. Guided by expert instruction in a supportive environment, participants will learn essential techniques for beading, pattern creation, and color combination. They will explore the nuances of designing unique, durable pieces that showcase their personal style. "Beaded Bliss" promises a blend of creativity and craftsmanship, culminating in a collection of handmade jewelry to wear or gift proudly. Learn the basics of still life drawing in this one day workshop! We will cover everything from how to set up a still life, initial sketches, how cropping is key, and even some strategies and practices you can do when you might be feeling stuck in your drawing. This class is great for beginners, or anyone who might be experiencing some art block and believes that some of those strategies and practices might help them out as well.
