The purpose of this open house is to:
- Provide an overview of the BRT program
- Provide project-specific updates
- Gather public and stakeholder feedback
Live Q&A Sessions
Project staff will be available to provide updates for all Wake BRT corridors and answer your questions. Each session will focus on a specific corridor as well as station design, branding and art.
Go to the Virtual Open House Engagement page to submit your questions, attend the event, and view the recording afterward. The Live Q&A Sessions will be held:
- May 10 – Western Boulevard Corridor
- May 11 – New Bern Avenue Corridor
- May 20 – Southern Corridor
If you are unable to attend, you can still view the Q&A session recording and ask any questions.
Wake BRT Program Update
Several Wake BRT projects are currently underway in different stages of planning and design. BRT will bring fast, reliable and efficient bus service to Wake County along four key corridors: New Bern Avenue, Western Boulevard, Southern and Northern. Station Design
Based on feedback from stakeholders and municipal partners, the City of Raleigh has developed conceptual designs for BRT stations. Certain elements of the station, like lighting and materials, are still under consideration. We would like your feedback.

Branding
The branding process is underway. Based on public and stakeholder feedback, a color and name have been chosen for the Wake BRT system. The only thing missing is a logo.

Wake BRT: New Bern Avenue
The New Bern Avenue Corridor will connect downtown Raleigh with WakeMed and New Hope Road. Final design for the corridor is now underway. The project completed 60 percent design in April 2021 and will continue to finalize project elements like roadway design, traffic signals, utilities and more. The final design of the New Bern Avenue Corridor is expected by the end of 2021.

Wake BRT: New Bern Avenue Corridor Update
New Bern Station Area Planning
The station locations along New Bern have been finalized, and the project team can begin the process of planning for areas around those stations. Building off the Equitable Development Around Transit project, the New Bern Station Area Planning process will kick off in early June 2021. New Bern Station Area Planning will focus on housing affordability, sustainability, and equity issues along the corridor.
Wake BRT: Western Boulevard
The Western Corridor will connect downtown Raleigh and downtown Cary. The project is in the early design phase. By the end of 2021, the project team will finalize station locations and refine BRT transit lane designs.

Western Boulevard Corridor Study
The Western Boulevard Corridor Study began in fall 2019 and is now in the final phase. The study will help transform Western Boulevard into a safer, walkable, transit-oriented urban corridor. The draft report will be released soon. Stay tuned and check for updates on the project website.

Wake BRT: Southern Corridor
The Southern Corridor will connect downtown Raleigh to North South Station and Purser Drive in Garner. The Wilmington Street Extension has been chosen as the preferred route. The project is currently in the early design phase (0 to 30 percent).

Wake BRT: Northern Corridor
The Northern Corridor will extend from downtown Raleigh to Crabtree Boulevard, along either Capital Boulevard or West Street. The Northern Corridor is currently in the planning phase. Future project updates will be posted to the Wake BRT: Northern Corridor project page. Wake BRT: Artist in Residence
The Artist in Residence (AIR) program is focused on art integration into the Wake BRT program. Dare Coulter was chosen as the Artist in Residence. On a system level, Dare is working with the design team to identify “blank canvases” for art integration. Along New Bern Avenue, she is working with the community to create conceptual ideas and inspiration.
