Certified Lifeguards

Prerequisites
- 15 years of age or older
- Pass City of Raleigh controlled substance and background tests
- Swim 150 yards continuously, using freestyle and breaststroke, demonstrating rhythmic breathing, tread water using only legs for two minutes, finish by swimming 50 yards.
- Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb. object from the bottom of the pool, return object to starting position and exit the water in 1 min 40 seconds
Non-certified Lifeguards
Free lifeguard training through the S.A.V.E. program! You must meet the following:

- Work 155 hours for City of Raleigh Aquatics Program upon completion of the class

SAVE Program Information
Seasonal Aquatic Vocational Education (SAVE) Program
The S.A.V.E Lifeguard position is currently taking applications! Please see the Non-Certified Lifeguard section of this page on how to apply.
The Seasonal Aquatic Vocational Education (SAVE) Program is free to those who pass the pre-screen swim test tryout. Applicant must be 15 years of age or older and comfortable in an aquatic environment with the willingness and potential to learn the skills necessary to become a lifeguard. Leadership, public relations, good availability, and decision-making skills are preferred.
A SAVE Lifeguard is responsible for completing the pre-screen requirements (swim test and employment paperwork), successfully completing the lifeguard training class, commit to working the 155 required hours, attending monthly and seasonal trainings and, as an employee, ensuring the safety of aquatic facility patrons by preventing and respond to emergencies.
Tryouts are scheduled after online application is received.
