Mine Creek Greenway

Improvements

Project Overview

The existing Mine Creek Trail extends from Sawmill Road in North Raleigh, to the Crabtree Creek Trail. The Mine Creek Greenway was one of the original trails constructed within the Capital Area Greenway system. The section of Mine Creek Greenway included as part of this project extends from Shelley Lake, south to Crabtree Creek Greenway, near North Hills Drive. The proposed improvements include upgrades to the trail to meet current design and construction standards and address the needs of the public. Specifically, improvements include trail resurfacing and widening, drainage enhancements, improved community access, safety enhancements for at-grade crossings, pavement markings, and pedestrian bridge replacement.

Planning

This project does not include a Master Plan phase.

Design

The project engineer, Dewberry Engineers, Inc., (Dewberry) has completed the preliminary design for improvements to the trail corridor.

Two public engagement meetings were held in early June to allow the public to review the proposed improvements. View the Resources section below to see the information presented at the public engagement meetings.

The next phase of the project will be to prioritize the improvements to meet the project budget. Example priority areas for trail improvements include bridge replacement, accessibility, improving trail safety, and trail resurfacing.

There will be another public engagement opportunity to review the trail improvements in the Fall of 2025.

See the Project Schedule below.
