Panel Discussion at Block Gallery Will Explore the Evolving Relationship Between Art and the Environment
For centuries, nature has served as a profound muse for artists—from the earliest cave drawings to the sweeping landscapes of the Hudson River School. Today, as environmental concerns become increasingly urgent, artists are reimagining their role—not only as creators but as stewards of the natural world.
Block Gallery invites the public to join an engaging panel discussion on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., exploring how contemporary artists respond to ecological challenges and forging new partnerships to support preservation and sustainability.
The conversation will feature Deborah Kruger, a featured artist at Block Gallery whose practice is deeply rooted in environmental advocacy. Joining her is Scott Hazard, current Artist-in-Residence for the City of Raleigh Nature Preserves, and Bryan England, Preserve Manager at Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve Park. Together, they will share insights into how the intersection of art and nature is shaping their work and the community.
This event, hosted by Raleigh Arts, is free and open to the public.
