Money is a tricky topic. Whether you’re saving or spending, the saying goes “money makes the world go round”, and in this case, it keeps the water flowing to your home’s taps. A big thank you to everyone that paid their water bills this month and in month’s past. You are keeping our City beautiful and our watersheds thriving… AND most importantly keeping the water flowing to you.
Have you ever looked at your water bill? I mean really… looked at your water bill? It’s more than just paying for the water coming out of your kitchen sink or the showerhead. (Don’t worry we don’t have time for the full bill breakdown but, we do want to take a closer look at a specific section on your bill.)

Those few cents go a long way! Don’t worry the funds don’t go directly into someone’s wallet. The dollars go to the Watershed Protection program. The program protects thousands of acres of land that in turn help block out nitrogen and phosphorus, chemicals we don’t want leaking into our drinking water. Yay, for safe, tasty, drinking water!
Here’s how the fee is calculated on a customer’s bill:
The fee is determined for every 1,000 gallons of water someone uses, they are charged about 11 cents. For example, if a person - you reading this; uses about 3,000 gallons of water a month. Doing the “quick maths,” that makes up about 33 cents on your water bill. (If you’d like to do your own calculations, there’s a nifty water usage calculator right here.)
So for less than 50 cents a month you are being assured safe drinking water to fill your glass every day.
