In honor of Memorial Day this month, let’s take a moment to thank the military members at Raleigh Water who play such a key role in delivering the vital resource to our homes. The long weekend is wonderful, but it’s not about what’s sizzling on the grill or the red, white and blue decorations – it’s about remembering those who served.
Finding the right career at the right time.
The truth is each individual person at Raleigh Water has their own story and is paving their own career path. Lucky for us – they all have the same passion of bettering our City. Today we are shedding a light on some of our workers that have chosen a second career after leaving the military. Many Raleigh Water employees are veterans.

Call it cliché.
Raleigh Water employee, Michael Falk’s passion for helping others and protecting public safety guided him to his current role in Incident Preparedness. Falk works with all branches of Raleigh Water, from Water Distribution to Sewer Maintenance and everything in-between, ensuring they’re prepared for all types of emergencies from tornadoes to cyberattacks. Michael’s main goal is protecting and maintaining the infrastructure that brings you safe and clean water daily.
Falk wasn’t always fielding phone calls to ensure good communication or typing out changes to safety documents; he is a proud military veteran with decades of safety training under his belt. Growing up near New York City, the events of 9/11 really cemented in him, his calling to become a first responder. Then later joining the military and working in the hospital system and finally joining Raleigh Water while also remaining active in the military as a platoon sergeant.
“I got bored.” Falk says honestly, “I saw the gunshot victims. I’ve done CPR hundreds of times. I’ve saved people’s lives. Not tooting my own horn but, it led me to joining the military. I wanted to help people in a different way.”
We are grateful, thank you!
Safety is always a top priority for Raleigh Water. It's how we make sure our workers return home to their families each night. Falk takes pride in his work, and Raleigh Water is proud to have a team built on strong values and the experience of veterans.
This Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifices of those who served, and we also want to thank veterans who continue to serve our communities by providing us with the vital resource of water every day. By protecting the City’s water supply, this new role not only focuses on safety for our community but also shows a commitment to a cleaner, brighter future.
