Raleigh is working to build safer, more connected streets, and we need your input! With funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, Raleigh is creating a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP) to reduce serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes.
Why This Plan Matters
Raleigh’s rapid growth brings new traffic safety challenges. In 2023, our city saw over 19,000 crashes, resulting in 41 fatalities. Risky behaviors like speeding and not wearing seatbelts contributed to many of these accidents. The Safe Streets for All plan aims to address these issues and make our roads safer for everyone—drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users.
Plan Goals
Our plan has five main goals:
- Reduce fatal and serious injury crashes by 25% every five years, aiming for zero by 2045.
- Improve road infrastructure for safety.
- Promote safe driving habits.
- Use data to guide our actions.
- Engage the community in every step.
