New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road

Vision Zero Improvements Complete on New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road

Construction is complete on a traffic signal upgrade at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road.

Upgrades include a new high visibility crosswalk with pedestrian signals heads and push buttons, along with new ADA compliant curb ramps. Crosswalks are designed to enhance pedestrian safety by providing a clearly marked and visible area for crossing. This crosswalk provides safer accessibility for pedestrians as they navigate a very busy New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road Intersection.

A new light-up notification sign helps prohibit right turns on red from Trawick Road onto New Bern Avenue when the push button on the new pedestrian signal is activated. This will also enhance pedestrian safety.

This existing signalized intersection was also upgraded with metal strain poles. This will help increase the structural integrity and reliability of this intersection moving forward.

The improvements at this intersection were constructed to increase pedestrian safety and mobility, but also in anticipation of the increase in pedestrian traffic due to the New Bern Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project, which will start construction in Summer 2024.

This project was funded and constructed by the NC Department of Transportation.
