Program Overview

We are partnering with Urban Sustainability Solutions to offer paid rain garden apprenticeships for high school students and teachers. This program expands their professional and academic development, environmental knowledge, and engineering skills.

The six-week afterschool rain garden apprenticeship program introduces students to green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) through a state-wide science standards aligned curriculum, real-world case studies of GSI design, engagement in community outreach, and exploration of nature-based solutions to environmental issues. Students and teachers will also install or maintain a rain garden or cistern through the Raleigh Rainwater Rewards Program.
