Become an Emergency Response Volunteer

Join the Raleigh Community Emergency Response Team

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

We welcome individuals of all abilities. Raleigh CERT conducts in-person training the second Saturday of every month and holds an evening membership meeting the second Tuesday of every month.

Community Emergency Response Teams in Action

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, initially created under President Jimmy Carter by Presidential Reorganization Plan No. 3 of 1978 and implemented by two Executive Orders on April 1, 1979.

How to Join Raleigh CERT

*Background checks are performed for every CERT applicant.

All CERT volunteers must consent to a background check before joining the team. This measure helps ensure the safety and security of everyone in the community during emergencies. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to serving our community as a CERT volunteer.

To join the Raleigh's CERT Team:

  1. Register: You will have to register with the North Carolina TERMS (Training - Exercise - Response Management System). Register.
  2. CERT Basic Training: After you have registered with NC TERMS, you will have to complete the CERT Basic Training Class. Search in TERMS for a time and location for a Basic Training Class.
  3. Submit Completion Certificate: After you have completed the training course, then you will have to email your certificate of completion to the NC CERT Program Manager.

After you have completed the CERT Basic Training Class you will be eligible to join Raleigh's CERT Program.
