Basic Training to Become Call Taker or Telecommunicator
During the Academy, trainees receive basic training to become call takers or telecommunicators. Trainees will receive a salary during training (starting on Sept. 21, 2024, a call taker’s annual salary will be $42,027 and a telecommunicator's will be $45,245).
The basic job duties include answering incoming emergency (911), non‐emergency, and administrative calls. Responsibilities include obtaining needed information from the callers and entering that data into a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center provides 911 services to a general population of more than 1.19 million people.
