New sidewalk installation on Fox Road

Lead Mine Road Sidewalk Project

We are dedicated to improving pedestrian connectivity in Raleigh.

About the Project

A new sidewalk is coming to Lead Mine Road between Charles Drive and Sugar Bush Road, creating a better connection for people walking in the area.

How We’re Delivering the Project

The City is using Progressive Design-Build, a new approach to delivering projects. With this approach, the City works with the design and construction teams from the start of the project.

The teams develop the plans together, work through project details, and prepare for construction before fieldwork begins. The City selected Crowder Construction and Dewberry to design and build five sidewalk improvements across Raleigh.

Design

Project Update: September 28, 2026

The Lead Mine Road Sidewalk Project is currently in the early design phase.

The project will move through two main phases.

Phase 1: Design
The project team will develop and refine the plans for the sidewalk improvements. The City will review the plans as they are developed, including at the 30- and 60-percent design stages.

Phase 2: Construction
Once the design is approved and the construction cost is established, the project will move into construction. This phase includes final construction plans, permits, utility coordination, right-of-way needs, and other work needed to build the sidewalk.
