Lake Lynn Loop Trail Improvements

Repaving and Drainage Improvements

The Lake Lynn Loop Trail Repaving Project includes repaving and improving drainage conditions along a ¾ mile section of the east loop of the Lake Lynn Loop Trail. Improvements will occur between the dam located adjacent to Lynn Road, on the south end of Lake Lynn along the east loop trail ending at the boardwalk accessing the trail to the Lake Lynn Community Center on the north end of Lake Lynn. This segment is located on what’s commonly referred to as Lake Lynn’s East Loop Trail.

This phase is complete.

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department anticipates advertising the construction bid for the Lake Lynn Loop Trail Repaving Project in Fall 2021. Construction is estimated to begin Spring 2022 and will close this section of trail anticipated to re-open in Summer 2022. During this time, the paved trail located on the west side of Lake Lynn will remain open.

In order to make these improvements, tree removal along this segment is proposed. Staff has coordinated this project with Urban Forestry staff for compliance with City code and policy. Development and maintenance along the Capital Area Greenway system come with varying degrees of disturbance, however, staff works hard to balance the protection/conservation of trees while providing safe and quality amenities to our citizens. Urban Forestry staff will work with the contractor to help adjust, alterations and ensure compliance throughout the project.

The Capital Area Greenway System was first adopted by City Council in 1976. This plan proposed a system of linear parks located primarily along rivers, streams, and creeks, and included the opportunity for an interconnected system of pedestrian trails across the region.
